In this week’s class, we discussed the topics of technology and outdoor education. Our guest speaker, Kristen, introduced some big questions, such as: “How can teachers integrate technology into the classroom in a meaningful way to develop a relationship with the land/environment?” And “How can teachers integrate technology into the classroom in a meaningful way to develop a relationship of care with the land/environment?” 

To answer these questions, I think it is important to incorporate Indigenous ways of learning into the curriculum while using various online resources to navigate this complex task. We can use the First Peoples’ Principles of Learning (FPPL) as a guide towards incorporating meaning in our outdoor learning. By promoting holistic, experiential, and relational learning, FPPL emphasize learning through direct engagement with the land, fostering connections to the land, history and culture. Outdoor learning provides opportunities for reflection, exploration and hands-on experience, which is in line with FPPL. By integrating FPPL into our outdoor learning, students can understand the interconnectedness of the world, education and each other.

This QR code leads to a hyperdoc that I created to provide a variety of valuable resources to support outdoor learning by integrating local Indigenous perspectives into education, offering cultural relevance and insight into the classroom. It offers educators a wide range of online lesson plans, guides and activities that emphasize experiential and place-based learning while fostering a connection to the land. Additionally, it integrates technology through online classes, digital guides and tools for remote learning to ensure accessibility and inclusivity in diverse educational settings.
