Today, I decided to bleach a pair of old jeans I had sitting around that my old roommate had given me almost a year ago. These jeans are an excellent quality with nothing physically wrong with them, however, I hadn’t worn them since she gifted them to me early last summer. Since they were just lying around waiting to be donated or given away, I decided to revamp them with the hope that with a little creative addition, they will get more use this spring!

These are all of the materials that were used to complete this project: A pair of unused jeans, household bleach, two angled paintbrushes, and a smaller one for precision, as well as some chalk to outline the designs.

I had the idea to add a variety of bleeding hearts all over one leg of the pair of jeans. I wanted them to look distressed, with the hearts looking faded in colour with a more old, worn look. To start, I drew out the spacing and size of the hearts, however, this was intended to be used as a rough draft, since I wanted them to look less perfect in the way they were initially drawn with the chalk.
After I was finished with the front side, I did the same process with the back.

When I was satisfied with the look of the hearts, it was time to add the finishing touches. Since I was going for a more distressed look, I decided it would be fitting to randomly add some bleach splatters and other little filler hearts all over the leg. Here is the technique I used:
By using the bleach splats to fill in the blank space and create a look that I was satisfied with, I decided to wrap this project up. I’m happy with how the jeans turned out, and I think that with some creative additions, I will wear these more often since I am proud of the work I created and the fact that they align more with my style. In the future, I may decide to complete the other leg, but for now, I like the idea of an asymmetrical look, and I hope that I will choose to wear these jeans more often. If I still don’t gravitate towards them, I will probably bleach the other leg and see if this will be more compelling, otherwise, I will try to sell them!
Here is the final result:
